Tim, I been having my blocks align honed and then we double check all the
clearances. Any block that I have used has needed some align honing. I run
0.0025 inch clearance. Were each of the bearing halves measured in multiple
places? I usually take 9 measurements on each with a caliper with ball tips.
Measure 3 spots across near each end and 3 spots across the center. You could
have had a bearing half that was thicker in some spots. Also, 0.002 is way
too close for these engines, never mind 0.001.
I would also suggest an oil accumulator, since even with the big pan you could
have some oil starvation. I would also suggest a synthetic race oil, after
you break it in with a mineral based oil.
I have not tried the coatings, but would also be interested in other's
experience.
That's my 2 cents. Joe(B)
