Subject: building a new engine
After another season on my GT6 I'm considering building another, or spare,
racing engine for the GT6. I would say I'm rather a novice at all of the ends
and outs as I know a lot of you guys and gals can talk clearances and setups in
your sleep.
I have one of Kastner's books on engine preparation (the little red book) and
I've read it back and forth dozens of times in the last twenty years. However,
with such a build idea from the past with relations to current ideas like
forged pistons, Carillo rods, ceramic coatings and the such... I'm wondering,
should I spring for some of the high end stuff like pistons and rods, or would
I be better off sticking to the old school methods and going forward.
Kas obviously built some of the best stuff for the time in his era, but I know
a couple of fast guys in small cars are doing some high end stuff now days and
it shows at the race track.
My little GT6+ has had no engine issues although my MSD died at the track this
month. I was smart enough to know I'd seen someone else loose one at a meet and
had a spare in my trailer, which kept me racing this past weekend. All is well
with the GT6 engine, it's just starting to show a little less oil pressure. I
think I've got another season on it, I hope.
