Hi,
Here's a single data point... I have a cam taken from my race car. The cam
is pretty mild (Piper BP270) and it has probably 200 hours tops in use,
but it has been run through the range (idle to 7000), it's been through
odd valve train failures (one broken rocker arm comes to mind) and some
other "stuff".
But I had this cam and lifters cryogenically treated back in 1999 or 2000.
Verdict: NO WEAR. The cam is perfect. The lifters are perfect.
I was quite surprised, to be honest. I actually expected the cam to be
worn! But it doesn't appear to be worn.
I will (someday) actually measure the cam lobes and look at the lifters
more closely, but I am totally sold on the cryo-treatment thing.
Regards,
rml
