Perhaps the term "port shaping" would better describe what is necessary? Also, it would seem that if you could put a uniform surface texture along the entire port, that would guarantee laminar flow, much as the dimples on a golf ball do, that would be the way to go. But now we are getting into the black arts, and gray areas of the GCR, etc...
