I got my two post lift in a similar fashion, but it cost me a couple
hundred. A very busy repair shop replaces two lifts a year, and sells
his old ones. Cheaper to replace before they give trouble than have them
go down and lose productivity. Only problem with this approach is you
will probably be looking at 3 phase lifts. I found a very affordable
solid state inverter and all is good.
If I had to do it again, I would probably get a 4 poster though. While
the 2 post has it's merits, lots of times I just want to work on
something quick and easy and picking the car up would be great. But
lining a car up under my two poster and getting everything aligned just
right is a pain. Just being able to drive up on the ramps of a 4 post
lift and raise the car would be nice.
I am sure those belly pans on new cars are important, but dealing with
them for oil changes is a drag. Because the 2 post lift is a hassle, I
never use it for oil changes on our daily drivers. It's quicker to get
it done on my back under the car than messing with the lift.
Yeah, I know, a four post lift takes up LOTS more floor space...
