The issue of bedding in new pads is more of an issue of getting the pads to
off gas. Those gases will reduce the stopping ability of the pads. Did the
pads come with any bedding instructions? Sanding the pads will not bed them.
Only friction and the associated heat will do this. Typically 5 or 6 hard
brakings, but not to a stop with some cooling time in between works. You do
not want to overheat them, but you do want them to get hot, then cool a
little, 5 or 6 times. Joe(B)

Interesting question... I have not heard of doing that, but it "sounds"
logical. I know I'm careful with braking for the first light drives on
a
new set of pads - letting them bed in to the rotors. With new rotors,
you
don't have much to "bed in" to... One question - are these
"competition"
grade pads or stock? That might make a difference in the answers.

On my '74 TR6 used right now for autocross, I am changing front rotors
and
putting in new pads. Since this car is not a driver and I tow it to
event,
the pads will be brand spanking new for my next autocross event. I have
read about sanding the pads. Is there any particular grit or technique?
If
not, I guess I'll use something like 100 grit and just touch the face up
a
little.
