Joe, I'm not sure what could be gained from blocking it off.
On my MGB, streetcar, when I ported and polished the manifold, I spent extra
time cleaning the area around the crossover and down inside it. The gain
was incredible for such a minor task.
I would think the motor would benefit from the additional intake of the
opposing carburetor. On a MG the head only has 1 intake port to share
between 2 cylinders and maybe it makes more sense to share 2 carbs also.
Just my thoughts.
