I forgot to mention that you DO have to be Mr. Environmentally  
Unconcerned to generate CO2, though you can make up for the burden by  
not breathing.

Silly remarks aside, I've been using one for about nine years and  
I've consumed three standard barbeque tanks of propane. I only need  
to run it for a few days to depress the mosquito population to the  
point that they are not bothersome for a few weeks. The CO2 plume is  
very light, and therefore you need to position the device properly.  
Octonol and other attractants help, but seem to be specific to a  
given location--they don't work with some varieties.   You can also  
just scout your property and your neighbors for standing water.  
Mosquitos don't fly far or fast. A couple of old tires with water in  
them will generate enough to make your life outdoors lousy. When they  
are bugging me I lather on the DEET. Spend a few weeks fishing in  
Alaska and you'll consider chemicals your very best friends. Clouds  
of Mosquitos, zillions of them. I'm itching just thinking about it.
