With the common rail technology the diesel engines had a big gain in
power.  The BMW 7 has a V8 diesel with 330HP and its max torgue is
available at 1900rpm and is 750Nm The gasoline V8 version has just
37HP more but is less fun to ride because of less torgue.

At year 2001 or 2002 a diesel BMW has won the 24H race on the Nurburgring.
