I thought I pass this along since I am one of the targets of Don's desires.
We are both in the South Central region of the VTR and I've managed to
finish ahead of Don's TR6 at the regional autocross one too many times for
him. If not me, it's been Ruth Josey's sweet little Spitfire. He's just not
going to take it any more! Don is too modest. His "old white TR6" is a
former VTR National concours winner and is one beautiful car. I know there
are people on the FOT list that are better able to answer some of these
questions than me. While I'm at it, if Don is doing all this work, he needs
to get on the FOT list. I hereby nominate him. Don, most days there are very
few emails, read and delete racing stuff, but it's also a great place to
read what others are doing.

Subject: RE: Help with White TR-6
Hello Guys,
Hope all is well with all of you. I'm writing you because all of you
represent everyone I know in the souped-up world of Triumphs. I'm trying to
make a gentleman's modified TR-6 out of my old white TR-6. Even though I've
been driving it like it is a modified car, it really has just been the tip
of the iceberg into the modified hobby. I've raised compression, flowed the
head, got a new cam that is adjustable sprocket degreed in, triple Webbers,
exhaust headers and 2 inch pipes to flow through muffs, and it still runs
like it's got a big vacuum leak when under a load. I need to know a lot of
things, but among them are the following:
1. Who carries carb kits so I can rebuild the Webbers? They are used
and someone suggested that they probably have gummy bears inside them after
setting up for three years. (and I thought I got a good deal) I think it
sounds like it is starving for gas when really getting on it. I have a
stock mechanical pump with a 3/8 inch gas line to the Webbers. Do I need an
electric pump with pressure regulator and all that stuff before it will run?
The jetting is maybe the smallest they make and was used in a late TR-6 with
an S-2 cam. I thought it would be plug and play, but obviously that would
have been way to easy.
2. I've read all the Friends of Triumph (fot) talk on the internet
about Mallory distributors, but wondered if I could get one without duel
points that has electronic, fool proof as possible firing controls or should
I just add a Lumenition Kit to the pot I've got and call it a day? I've
tried Petronix and have a couple of those magnetic pick-ups where the
magnets are all over my metal tool box, after I gathered them up from
exploding inside my distributor.
3. I was also wondering which roll bar to buy, which I've read some
about the class changes it may cause if using one kind over another, but I
don't really care. Which is the safest, and still get a top that can be put
up ?
My goal is to build a very modest looking TR-6, that will transform from
mild mannered Clark Kent into a Super running machine. I might even get to
occasionally beat the stock Spitfire or Bob Kramer's daily driver TR-6.
Would any of you, when you find a minute, please give me your opinions on
these issues, or just tell me I'm crazy. After you begin you just can't
stop half way with this stuff, and evidently I've long since past my own
abilities and knowledge and Louise is really beginning to wonder if I've
lost it.
