I don't see why it would be just one event. I'd like to at least see east,
middle and west events. I'm scheming to help Sovern turn the Labor Day
weekend Columbia Classic event at Portland International Raceway into
something bigger. It is put on in concert with the All British Field Meet.
Anybody besides me see a possible opportunity there?
My plan is to make it a festival event sponsored by a true club. In other
words, add the elements like Goodwood where people can come in period dress,
and there's picnics and bands and parties that include spectators as
participants in the whole event instead of just drivers and corner workers.
Those don't need to subtract from the track time (though currently an
autocross that uses part of the track and a car club parade do take some
time. But it's a three day event and the autocross can be relocated and even
expanded.
We'll see how it works out--I need to talk to the Sovern board, but an
MG/Triumph showdown is very much in the spirit of what I have in mind.

Any thoughts about choosing an event to bring our 'show' to where the
schedule will allow us enough race groups to handle our numbers so each
group has a safe number of cars on the track at once? How about more than
five 15 minute sessions in the race weekend?
It seems to me the Festival events are not where we are going to find this.
Where do we want our annual "big" event to be? Festival type events with
generally bigger race groups with less track time OR club events where we
are truly the main event, get better scheduling and more track time?
Come on, guys, speak up.
No doubt 2005 is cast in stone, we are going to run the Mitty. But I for
one would like to see the direction of our future events turn away from the
big festival events. Am I in the minority here?
