The real, real reason to go vintage racing is having the best seat in the
house to watch these great old cars at speed. Every so often when the red
mist starts to settle I need to remind myself of that.
What I really love about Hoosiers is that you can stick 'em sideways
without tossing it away. Dunlops are pretty good for that too, but at much
lower speed, and when they decide to let go completely, you're a passenger

New sounds good, though if you've ever run on the old Dunlops you'll be a
little cautious. The old compound made tire wear a non-issue. I have a set
with ten races on them that are indistinguishable from new. They also make
going fast a non-issue. The best I could do on them at PIR was more than
five seconds slower on a track that Peyote turns 1:31 on with Hoosiers.

I have had the same experience with DUNLOPS as well, but I continue to use
them anyway. They look so damn'd BRITISH. Two years ago I won a set of
HOOSIERS in a USRRC race. I could never get them to 'seat' on my original
ARW Silverstones, so I mounted them on the THUNDER BOLT's PANASPORTS. I
only ran them two or three times. They were much stickier, and hence MUCH
faster.
I traded them to DON BRICK for a pair of used DUNLOPS. BRICK loves the
HOOSIERS, and now catches and passes me (in a milder prepared car). Of
course, he's a better driver.
