Mid-Ohio has come and gone. All I can say is it was an event I will
remember for quite some time.
First, my hat's off to Joe Alexander. For a group of folks with no
organization whatsoever, Joe stepped up to the plate and really made this
an event special. It was truly great to meet Kas, and see all those Triumph
race cars!
Also, the guys from Western Pennsylvania Triumphs Association (WPTA) really
did themselves proud with the Hospitality tent. There was hot coffee and
food in the morning, a place to meet at night, and a bunch of chairs
waiting to be filled by anyone who wanted to stop by and talk Triumphs.
Thanks so much guys!
We made some new racing friends in the contingent from Britain, what a wild
bunch of guys with some really special cars! OK, so their cars lacked a lot
in the way of sheet metal, but the fiberglass panels did the trick just
fine. Those boys were fast, really really fast.
Not a banner effort on my part, I christened the new paint job with a trip
into the tire wall Friday morning. With the help of many, especially Jim
Shay and Ed Major of WPTA, and none other than our own Mark Bradakis with a
helping hand in the most interesting parts yard for a steering rack, we
were able to get things back in order. Bob Lang was on hand to help get the
front end aligned, helping scrounge up the correct tools plus a front end
specialist to boot. I was plagued by carb problems until uncle jack
furnished a couple of fuel bowl lids that actually worked correctly. The
new motor really started to strut it's stuff, then I broke the ring gear in
the diff on Sunday warm-ups. I got to watch all the fun on Sunday from the
grandstands, and it was quite a show.
When do we do it again??? ;-)
