I found some other good info at www.team.net/www/healey/tech/. The Healey guys
like to run 600 psi also, but they reportedly tear up a lot of overdrives too.

think I'm going to shoot for 450 to 500 to start with, and see how it works.
Why
remove the springs? I'd think if you remove them it would slow down shifts out
of overdrive.
