Yes, absolutely essential not to use a synthetic for bedding in piston
rings. This bedding in is to some extent wearing out - "running in" oil is
best if you can get any, otherwise the cheapest engine oil you can get. The
quickest way of running in rings is to go up hills in top gear at 30 mph and
put you're foot hard down on the accelerator, don't overrev and don't
overheat.
