My engine builder (Wayne Snyder, The Able Co.), who swears by the synthetics
(so much so that he finally got me switched over after years and years of
resistance to change ;-), does say to run it in with regular oil (he calls
it "mineral oil") first.

About one autocross with the regular stuff, then change.

The synthetic is "too slippery." It lubricates so well things like piston
rings don't seat (or take much longer to do so). That's my understanding.
Too slippery is good after everything is happy in the engine.
