Fitting the down draught progressive carbs such as those from the DGV
series in place of the 175 Stromberg units seems to have merit, even
though it has not been very well received here. By fitting the Weber
units which have 32mm and 36mm primary and secondary throttles
respectively, you gain about 27% more throttle area. Last time I put a
vacuum gauge on a 2.0 litre with 150 Strombergs it still had vacuum at
full chat, I assume that holds true for the 2.5 litre as well. Both could
probably benefit from more carburetion.
The DGV's would probably not be as thirsty as the 3X DCOE set up, which
is a bit much for street use especially if the engine is not highly
modified. It would be easier and much less expensive to setup as well.
Might be able to set it for even better fuel mileage.
Pretty hard to get a simpler carb than the Stromberg CD's though, but
that's part of the problem with getting them perfect and keeping them
that way. Once set Webers usually tend to hold their setting
There might be some loss of flow due to the adaptors on the original TR
manifold compared to a purpose built manifold made to use the Webers but
it still probably flows more than the stock carbs.
It may not be ideal for maximum performance but might be real nice for
the street.
Just a thought,
