Henry, I used HS6 carbs on a long manifold for a half season, and they
drove me nuts. I could never get them to flow enough fuel. I gave up
on them and bought Webers. Problem gone! The H6 carbs that came with
the car always ran ok, but were too long for air cleaners, and often
leaked. They also had supports to the tops of the float bowls. I
never did try anything with soft spacers. The engine would die out at
5900 rpms with out air cleaners and no muffler, but would make it to
6300 with air cleaners and muffler. The carbs were also modified as
per David Vizard. I figured that it worked with HS2's for my Spitfie,
so it would work for the HS6's - WRONG. Jack Wheeler had chimmed in
way back when, that he had best results with stock HS6's.
