Joe,
Re-cap on my fuel problem. In the cooler weather this past weekend I had no
problems. The misfire appears to have been almost entirely due to the PO
routing of the overflow lines into the radiator overflow bottle combined with
a weak cap. I can't believe it took so long for me to notice that problem.
After a practice session I raised the idle a bit to get better throttle
response after hard braking and away I went. ....DUH!
I blistered a tire on Saturday. I'm down to 3 good Yokes. Fortunately I made
it to the grid early and noticed it. Must have been on the bottom in the
paddock. Thanks to Brad Kahler I had a set of old yokes off his TR3 project in
the pickup, so after getting a quick tire change I was back on the track. It
was fun starting a race 2 laps down. but it put me at the back of the pack for
the final race. CVAR is considering allowing all 15" wheeled Group 2 cars,
built to 1972 rules, to run 50 series tires since there are no usable 60
series tires being sold, and there are still good supplies of tires for the
13" and 14" cars. I don't think I want to do that, so I'll probably go the
Vintage TD route. I'm afraid I'll loose ground to the Hoosier fitted MG crowd,
but 225-50's just don't seem right for the car. Do you know anyone running
Goodyears? They list 2 versions of the 5.50-15 , one 25.5" (G-12) and one
22.8" (G-7) diameter. I'm wondering if these are a good choice. The 008R's
195-60-15's I'm running are 24.2" diameter, and the Vintage TD's are 24.7". I
think the Dunlop's are even taller.
