Mallory dual point dist.

Amici -
Any one out there running the Mallory dual point distributors ??  My question 
is about adjusting the amount of mechanical advance, it came with about 24 
degs. set from the factory.  What would the advantage be in adjusting this, 
i.e.; to a lesser amount?  My dynamic timing is 16 degs. at 900 rpms.
This is in a Spit 1500 motor, and has proved most reliable over electronic 
ignitions.
