I just did Scrappy's cam last weekend. It's an Erson 260. I used the old gear
(which is still in good shape, thank God) and dialed it in to 1 degree
advanced. I prefer 2 degrees to account for wear, but 1 is close enough.
Simply lining up the marks had it 6 degrees retarded. I'm getting faster,
only took an hour to get it right this time.
Strangely enough, the proceedure is in the factory shop manual. If ever there
was a book that was under used... many of Ken's tech info answers come right
from there.
