It depends on what sort of fitting you have. Some plumbing connections, like tapered pipe threads, actually seal at the threads. Others, like AN flares, compression fittings and such seal by mating two surfaces together, the threads just perform clamping duties. If the mating surfaces are dirty, distorted, improerly aligned or whatever, you can seal the threads all you want, but that won't fix the problem. mjb. |
