Hi,
Actually, I'm told that I didn't make it to the GFS, but I was pretty
close - in relative terms - as I just got back from Topeka, KS and the
SCCA Solo II Nats. Pretty impressive stuff - 900 competitors.
There were even a few Triumphs.
I was not driving my DSP TR6 ( ;-( ) as I was involved in "tire warming"
for a buddy in his Scirocco, so I'll send my actual experience to the
news group alt.who.cares and let them have at it - or /dev/null for you
Unix types out there. ;-). The short version - I finished 26th out 46
cars in my class, a scant .002 behind my goal of 25th overall. Oh well. I
have to go back again to try to meet my goal - anybody up for 1999???
But I wanted to pass this on - I was only at the AutoX stuff for the
first two days and only part of the third day, so this is partial info.
At any rate, JK Jackson was driving a TR6 in DSP (drat! I knew I should
have brought my TR6!) and he had a marginal performance due to his being
a bit under the weather - in fact he told me he started sneezing while
trying to negotiate a rather fast slalom... this does not improve your times!
But JK's wife - Chris Moore - manager to trophy in DSPL in a TR6. Second
Place in a heated battle with Hondas, Fiat X19's and the usual VW
products. Very impressive!
I did see a few of the AP cars (where my TR6 will probably wind up
someday) and I saw the impressive Scott Witt TR6 powered TVR 2500 - wow!
That baby is making some serious power as he has capable of lifting
either front wheel on acceleration. He also has some serious brakes, as I
have video of him lifting the inside rear wheels on various turns. Quite
the car and the sound was heavenly!
There were also some Spitfires running in DP, but I did not get any video
due to my battery croaking. I did get to see Rocky Entriken and his
Spitfire out on course...
So, there are still Triumphs running in Solo II and they actually are
competitive. Kool.
later,
rml
p.s. less than two weeks to Indy. I can't wait.
