Here is some info I found on Rallye about different fenders/sizes:

Front Fenders vary in the size of the flare, the park light hole, and what t=
he shape of the side marker light hole is, if any. Emblem holes, (if predril=
led), may be different on some years. Some fenders were drilled for other co=
untries or not drilled at all. Although some people feel the shape of the re=
ar upper end of the fenders where they hit the cowl and upper part of the do=
or is different between 68-70 and older cars, there seems to be as much diff=
erence between one 68 fender to another 68 or from one 67 1/2 fender to anot=
her 67 1/2 as there is between a 67 1/2 and a 68! The rear most part of the 6=
3-64 and 65 1500 fenders differ, although NOS replacement fenders have had o=
nly one of the styles for at least 28 years. (Pics and Info) Fenders dependi=
ng on production run also can vary around headlight area as well. It was not=
intentional, they just vary due to inadequate quality control. The headligh=
t rims themselves can vary a lot. Always fit the headlight scoop to the fend=
er before painting the fender. Don't assume the mounting holes (if they are a=
lready there) for the headlight scoop trims are in the best place. I did hav=
e a body shop tell me one time it was easy to flare the 1500 fender into a m=
edium flare 65-67 1600 fender than it was to "deflare" a later fender to wor=
k on the earlier 1600. But that was just one person's opinion.

The last time we did a warehouse reshuffling I pulled a large number of new f=
enders and doors out and had a couple of people try to find differences. We a=
lso recently hung a few on undamaged cars. We found far more variance in the=
SAME part than we did from one year's part to another year's. We compared n=
ew parts to new parts, new to used and used to used. If you look at a bunch o=
f 65 and 66 cars that all would have the "older" point shape, they vary also=
.
Hanging the same fender on multiple same year undamaged cars gives different=
results also. The way body panels fit on the roadster isn't that precise. T=
here are what I could see as different "point shapes" on the rear upper part=
of the fender, (different angles, curves), but I found all these different "=
shapes" on 68-70 fenders and all of them on 63-67 1/2 fenders. For each year=
we found some that were more blunt, or more "pointed", and some that more o=
f a two step curve as the fender heads down the door line. I almost wonder i=
f the rearmost upper "tip" of the fender was hand formed after pulling the f=
ender out of the forming tool, with the variances we found. All of the fende=
rs are the exact same length from rear most upper point tip to the headlight=
edge. The mounting position of the fender is a tad bit different though. St=
arting on the 68 models, when the cowl and windshield were changed, the uppe=
r rear most hanging bracket was altered. Unlike the nut on the older cars, w=
hich was fixed, the nut on the 68-70 cars was made to float in it's receptac=
le to allow a little fender position adjustment. At it's maximum "outward-mo=
unting" position though, it still forces the fender inward 1/4 inch from the=
67 1/2's. The change in the nut location may be the only consistant differe=
nce between a 67 1/2 fender and a 68.

So right off the bat, all other things being equal, hanging a 68-70 fender o=
n an older car will give an decreased gap. Hanging an older fender on a 68-7=
0 will give an increased gap. But things are never equal and these cars and t=
heir parts seem to vary A LOT. You can compensate for this regardless of the=
problem by slotting the mounting hole on the car or redoing the bracket. Bo=
dy shops sometimes have to do far worse than this repairing accident damage.=

Most of this is moot anyway as only some of the different fenders are availa=
ble in a new part, and used parts may have far more problems than just a tin=
y edge shape difference (if there ever was one!)

I too thought I read somewhere that there are different flares between 1970 a=
nd others, but I can't recall where I read that.
