If this wasn't on the other side of the continent I would be right there to add 
it to my collection of rescued 70's.  Sounds better then the average east coast 
example. 

I first thought where do you live that they actually can ping you for a covered 
car on your property, then I see your sig.  At my va house you need at least a 
couple sitting around uncovered and immobile, down in carolina there are 
apparently very few rules for anything.  I keep my neighbors happy by trying 
not to leave them in pieces outside and letting them drive one around on a 
sunny day - that went over really well and bought me some good will.  Sounds 
like your neighbor wouldn't have gone for that.  

You should have at least called the inspector or their supervisor back and let 
them know the car was registered etc. make them explain their actions.  
Probably a loosing battle but then they know they were wrong and might actually 
investigate future assignments. 

One of the roadster maniacs near you will come and get it.  Even if it ends up 
living on in everyone else's cars its better than being towed to the recycler.
