Coil, distributor cap & rotor, condenser, ballast, ignition switch, spark
plugs and spark plug wires, and all the wire and connections associated with
the ignition system should be checked and eliminated as the problem, no
order in particular.
And last but not least, the best tool you can ever buy is a manual for ANY
vehicle by Chilton or Clymer. All of their publications have basic
troubleshooting chapters in them, that will answer the question you just
asked.
