Tach cable, yes. "Late" tach cables had longer ferrules at the instrument
end, which makes them less flexible when installing. Early tach cables are
harder to find, and more expensive when you do. Either will perform
properly, but I like the early cables for low-windshield cars because of the
fit-up issue. (Some people carrefully cut the ferrule with a tubing cutter,
which adds flexibility near the tach connection.)
I THINK the 1600 speedo cables were shorter than the 2000 cable, so it may
depend on which way you're going -- 2000 to 1600 or vice-versa. Dean
(datsunparts.com) lists "one longer cable for both 1600 and 2000". Dann
(Rallye; datsunroadster.com) lists separate cable part numbers for the 1600
and 2000.
It would not surprise me to find a 2000 speedo cable in a 1600 because that
was what the dealer had at the time. If it reaches, you're fine.
