My 66 hard top sits on the black hard plastic trim piece and not on the paint
(even though it is spray can painted, it is important that it doesn't rub it
off!) Of course now that I have a soft top it hangs in the garage (which is the
same place I always saw it at Mike Harper's house prior to me buying it from
him)
