My hardtop (manufacturer unknown) hardly touches the paint. It doesn't sit on
the rear trim (u-bar) but instead, the hardtop sort of rests on top of the
softop hardware/twisties.
The hardtop has been on my Roadster about 99% of
the time for the last 2-3 years. I removed it occasionally when I do a
complete detail on the car which is about 1-2x a year. There is some marking
on the paint, but nothing that I haven't been able to buff out.
