So why do we want our cars to be valuable?
Its simple economics really
Things that have no value contain limited desire to own hence if we want to
preserve these cars for the future and have industries that can support the
cars they must increase in net worth. This will increase demand in a limited
market the 212 should be preserved because its motoring history.
Seems some people on here have a naive an mis guided perspective of how
economics works and what will ensure the survival of a car for the future.

Just because something is rare does not mean it is worth a lot of money. The
fender is worth nothing unless you happen to have a 212 that needs a fender.
It could be worth thousands if it is the last part you need to restore a 212
to showroom shape.
Personally, I don't understand the push to make the roadsters "worth" more.
It only matters if you are looking to sell it, and I'm hanging on to mine. I
for one am very glad that I was able to purchase my current 2000 for nearly
the same price as my first one, nearly 20 years later. For those of us who
don't have the dollars for a full on restoration or an outrageous custom,
the "undervalued" roadster provides the opportunity to have a really fun
car. Something that you can drive without being terrified that somebody will
scratch it in a parking lot, but still draw a thumbs up and that roadster
grin every time you leave the driveway.
