IMO, what started out as a simple request, hey, can you not post so often?
rapidly went downhill and away from that simple request. Blame it on the
heat, the economy, politics, sun spots, bad home training, whatever.
I dont think anyone wanted the parts seller to be banned, just restrain
their postings, which were frequent enough to take on the persona of Viagra,
Nigerian banking scams, etcand none of us want that. Moving on....
Im in the middle of gutting the basement, so no roadster stuff, but how
about a nice Datsun story posted on the Bluebirds list by Carter, a super
nice guy?

I have been away on business for a couple of weeks and while away, I found a
set of 280zxt snowflakes for sale which I was looking for before I left. I
was excited to get back home and make contact with the seller and arrange a
time to come pick them up. That time was last night so after work, I drove
the 1 1/2 hours out to Oak Harbor to pick them up.
Besides the lady who almost ran into me by changing lanes without looking
and then a guy in a 4x4 that did the same thing to the Audi in front of me
about 100 yards later on the ship canal bridge - it was a beautiful evening
and traffic was light so the drive was nice. Had one guy driving circles
around my car while going south on I5 before finally taking a couple photos
with his phone and then hitting the gas.
When I got to the guy's house he had a nice yellow 240z facing me from the
garage. He had a few more out back too. Nice guy and obviously has a love
for Datsuns. He had a 4dr 510 way back in the day and would never have
believed at the time that people would be following them today. Said he
literally beat that thing into the ground (with a big smile on his face).
So it was late in the evening now and I headed back home so I turned on my
headlights. I noticed the temp gage started to push up higher than usual so
I started watching with much interest. I paid the toll for the Tacoma
Narrows bridge and pushed on and the temp held steady. I cranked up the
heater to pull some heat out of the coolant and had to have the window down
and vent full open to avoid cooking myself! I had checked the coolant level
recently and there was no sign of problems when I had the hood open at the
guys house as we showed each other our motors so I didn't bother pulling
over somewhere for more water.
Pretty uneventful trip home despite the high temp reading, which held steady
(and my attention) all the way home. I was however made aware that my right
rear blinker and brake light stopped working somewhere along the trip as
well.
This morning I checked the coolant and it was full. I checked the rear
taillight and the red wire to the housing appears to have melted some time
ago and the conductors were all exposed and corroded. I re-made the
connection a few times and got my lights back for now. I'll have to fix that
for real later.
My drive in to work this morning had no high temps.
Even with the high temp reading stress and taillight failure it was sure a
nice night for a 3 hour drive! Met another nice enthusiast and came home
with another treasure. I have been all over the state getting little bits
here and there. Sometimes a car, sometimes a part, always a story and always
a good time.

Oh, and I got a voice message while I was on my trip from some lady
looking for parts. Turns out she is the original owner of a 71 510 just
north of me. She has put over 350k miles on her car, replaced the motor
once, and was in the middle of having a shop replace a melted fuse box for
her. I advised her that the new fuse box may fix her lighting issues she was
having but am excited to call her again and get some more
information/stories/etc.
