>From my experience with a 1979 Chevy Malibu that the PO had "meticulously
maintained", yes. It had so much c____ in the oil pasages that the dealer
had to de-sludge it. Being a cat iron block and head V-6, there was no
noticeable engine damage. Dealer said sludge was the result of not changing
the oil. Period. It was a company car, and it was two quarts + down when I
took it over. It was running rough, so I pulled the plugs the first weekend
(as I had to go on a trip on Monday), and found one spark plug COMPLETELY
covered with carbon -- just a nice mound over the entire electrode. Run
much better with a fresh set of plugs.
