One of our club members restored the side trim on his later-model roadster
by essentially making a die and stamp out of hardwood.
One piece was a about a 2" square block that had a recess that matched the
outer shape of the trim. Then he made a die out of another piece of hardwood
that would fit inside the trim. Lay the trim face down on the block, put the
die inside the trim and tap with a hammer. Rinse and repeat, as they say.

He said it took him about 40 hours to get all the dings out of a full set of
trim. So if you're comparing to Mr. Mayle's prices, you're valuing your time
at about $6/hr just to straighten it, and then you still have to buff it
out. Time is money. Your choice.

Tim

I used Bob Mayle's Stainless Trim restoration in Depew (Buffalo) New York.
Here is his web page http://www.stainlessresto.com/

He did my 70 SPL stainless side moldings - $12 per foot so about $230. His
work is EXCELENT and timely. Bob took out all the dings and polished to a
mirror finishing - really quite incredible when I think about how badly I
handle a pecking hammer and dolly...

He works out of him home, very nice guy - that's his '56 Chevy with a crate
LT-1 on the home page of his web site.

Someone who can take some side trim and work the ding and dents out? I would
ship it to where ever.

This is an early model year set. What is the difference between the years in
the trim type?

Also, has any one ever had this type of trim (is it stainless of Aluminum?)
chrome plated? And if so, how did you mount it after the plating process?

TIA
