Check both ends of the cables from the battery, not just the battery post
end. The ground from the starter housing to the frame is also critical:

I've been informed that this item is commonly missing (mine was) and could
easily cause an engine fire when the throttle cable becomes the substitute
ground.

Also pull the battery cables and clean the connections and the battery
posts. It's surprising how little corrosion it takes to cause problems when
you're trying to pull several hundred amps to the starter.

First principles: check for corrosion on the starter harness where it
attaches to starter and ground.

All,
I went out to take the car for a drive this morning and got the dreaded
click-click-click-click with no engine turning at all. So I pull out the
meter and check the battery across the terminals -it's fine. I have voltage
at the coil and can pretty much hear that the solenoid is trying to engage.
I bought this car back in February and noticed that the starter looked
original.
I am planning on ordering a gear reduction starter this week. Just checking
to see if the gear heads have a different opinion or idea.
Thanks,
Andrew Murphy
