Hello Keith, You were right. The cable was not set in properly behind the
tach. Now has a bit of a bounce but is working. Thanks again! Larry.

What can happen is this. The cable center does not always go into the square
hole in the back of the tach. This happens almost every time you pull the
cable loose from the distributor and the center cable slides out of the
housing a bit. You push it back in and it just does not go where it belongs.
Unscrew the cable from the back of the tach, make sure the cable in inserted
properly and then screw the connector back on. The tach and speedo both tend
to do this. It's a pain but the sad reality.

Have my 68 mechanical tach set up and connected to the dash guage. I can
hear and feel it turning in its housing but the tach needle does not move

tight before doing all the wire hookups. I am also pretty sure the tach
worked before starting the vehicle restoration. Could I have lost a piece
on one or the other end of the cable? NOt sure what it would be. Any
    thoughts out there? Larry.
