Ahhhh-sooooo, makes sense. I have no plans to replace my R16 at the moment,
but good info for "maybe later."

Is the L-series a cheaper option than the KA?

Pete

Off the top of my head? :^)

Parts are cheaper and easier to get. How much would you guys like to buy a
timing set for $75 for a U20? It looks a heck of alot like the U20, thus
making the swap invisible to the untrained eye. They can make quite a bit of
power with the right mods. All the sensors, exhaust, intake, etc. stays in
the same place as the U20 (thus helping the stock "look"). They are alot
easier to find than a good U20. They made about 2 million of them over it's
7 year span. You can use a 2.2L short block from an 81-84 truck/200SX to
build an "L22" with all stock parts. You can swap out rods for different
rod-stroke-ratios. You can change compression ratio to whatever you want
with the right combination of STOCK parts. You can build a 2.1L, 2.2L 2.3L
and even 2.4L with the right combination of STOCK parts.

And the #1 reason? Lots of dimers are pulling out good L20Bs to swap in KAs
and SRs. ;^)
