Don't open it. Put a dab of paint (nail polish works) on the input
shaft and a dab on the output flange. Stick it into gear. Turn the
input shaft exactly 10 times (or more if you wish to improve
accuracy) and have a helper count the output turns. For example,
in 4th you'll get 10 turns on the output, 'cause 4th is 1:1.
