I could be wrong, but I believe Road and Track did a 15.8 quarter mile with
>a stock 67.5 Solex 2000 on 4 1/2 inch bias ply tires back when they were
>new
>and said they felt they could have done a good deal better if they'd been
>able to control the wheelspin going down the track. feel free to correct me
>if I'm wrong, memory at 53 seems to be a more iffy thing than it used to

Craig, unless you have another R&T source you are almost dead-on!!
The Brooklands Books (Datsun Roadsters, Performance Portfolio) lists several
sources with various times very close to your numbers. The Modern Motor road
test article listed the time at 16.1 sec. The Road & Track (Nov 1967)
article said "The 150-bhp version was even quicker at 16.8 sec. Wheelspin
becomes significant with the standard 2000's torque and, with tires that put
more rubber on the road than the standard 5.60-14's, acceleration times
could be improved considerably."
I don't think you need to worry about your memory much, since I actually had
to pull out a book and look it up...you damn near quoted the article word
for word. I dream someday my car will at least get close to any of these
numbers.
