The 87 and 88 Mustangs used the speed density fuel injection. This setup is
not as tunable as the later mass air cars but they made more power. The 88
mustang was 225 horse and 300 ft. Lb.. This was the car that gave the 3rd
gen Mustang so much success on the drag strip. The later cars with mass air
only had 205 horse but Ford still claimed they had 225. I would suggest
that you keep the fuel injection and not swap to a carb. There would be no
performance advantage and reliability would suffer. I often thought about
putting a SBF in my Roadster. I even measured the 302 in my 87 Mustang to
see if it would fit. It was the heavy weight of the swap that changed my
mind.
