Jack the car up and put jackstands under the frame rails ahead of the rear
springs.
Put a floor jack under the axle housing and just barely take the weight off
the springs.
Undo the four nuts on each side that hold the lower spring perches to the
springs (these are the nuts on the U-bolts), and swing them out of the way.
Chances are these will have a fair amount of corrosion on them and will get
hot and tight from the friction as you try to remove them. Soak them
thoroughly in CRC, PB Blaster or the marinade of your choice for a day or
two first.
Jack the axle housing up so the weight is completely off the springs.
Remove the main bolts that hold the springs on at both front and rear.
DO NOT undo the bolt that is in the center of the spring! That one holds the
leaves together and may have tension on it, depending on the condition of
the spring.
You'll probably have to drive the main bolts out with a drift or a 3/8"
drive extension.
Be careful, the springs are heavier than they look.
See diagram http://www.gordon-glasgow.org/Images/53.gif. You'll be removing
the nuts for bolts 13, 22 and 42.
