TIMING

I am having trouble timing my 1600, there seems to be no gauge or plate
on the timing cover to tell where to set the advance.  There is a fin
that protrudes off the timing cover that marks TDC, and I can see the
timing mark on the crank pulley, but isn't there supposed to be some
kind of plate or gauge with numbers in degrees down there? If so, and
mine is missing, can they be replaced ?
