Everything that Brian said, (take heed to the "really hot exhaust" advice)
and one thing to remember... they are gas-hogs ! That may or may not be a
factor for you. Parts are readily available - your best bet would be to find
a
local rotary specialist - they will have tips/trick for fuel delivery mods et
c.
(There really isnt much left to do the internals)
I've had several rx-7's (all 12a) and if it's already been gone through, you
should get long service out of it. If by chance you DO need to replace seals
it is really not as scary/mysterious as some folks make it out to be.
(provided you are mechanically inclined, and like playing with "fiddly bits")
I actually enjoyed cracking open the rotary - re-sealed several of them for
other folks.
I've seen all sorts of conversions (spridget being the most memorable)- fun
toys if done right !
