Hey John, I had the same thing happened to me about a year ago. You can use a 
plastic panhead screw/bolt in place of the rubber. It seem to work well and 
doesn't wear out like the rubber. You can probably find some at a good hardware 
store or strangely enough a motorcycle dealership.
