Andy and I autocross in SCCA Texas Region and Dallas area Equipe Rapide.
Roadsters and 914's can compete in CS, CSP, DP, EP, DM, EM, and SM2. The
amount of money you spend determines how fast you go, and the types of
modifications you spend the money on determines your class. You can't compare
apples to oranges, so the definition of "faster" only relates to raw times,
not winning times. The rule is, "Money equals Speed-How fast do you want to
go?" Miatas are the competition for both 914 and Roadster. We have 914's
that compete in CS, DP, SM2, and CSP, and they are not as fast as the Miatas,
either in raw times or "indexed" class times. I guess 914 owners are mostly
poor people. Mike Steinbach runs his CSP 2000 Roadster occasionally, and
sometimes he beats the Miatas, and sometimes not. Andy moved up to E Mod this
year, and he is beating the 355 cubic inch RX-7 "Chevda" with his 2000-engined
Roadster. He also beats most of the Miatas and the 914's in raw time,
regardless of class.
