Dave,

IMO, a whole lot depends on how often and how far you're gonna tow. If
you're talking anything but short, local trips I'd stick with a dual axle
trailer. I'd find a trailer builder in your area and get a quote on having a
trailer just long enough (12 feet or so) for the roadster built. I like two
axles versus one, especially for longer trips. I'd have brakes and install a
receiver style frame hitch.

Shortening the "standard" 14 or 16 foot steel tube/diamond plate decked
flatbed down should save a bunch of weight. You could save more weight by
not covering the entire deck, too. However, we built a removable box for a
flatbed we used to have which allowed us to haul all sorts of stuff other
than just cars. Depends on what you want to do. If the budget allows you
might consider aluminum, but that gets spendy faster, AFAIK.

I think I'd flat tow for short distances rather than use a dolly, but on a
roadster I'd fabricate a more substantial solution than attaching the tow
bar to the front bumper mounting points.

FWIW,
Ron
