I pulled the 5-speed out of the parts car yesterday and I'm preping it for a
transplant into the stroker. Before I do though, I need some advice. Is
there anyway to check the syncros without driving it? There was very little
metal on the drain plug and and all the gears appear to be in good shape (I
scoped it instead of pulling out the gear clusters.) My 4-speed is pretty
crunchy and I don't want to put in another crunchy gear box.
Also on the 2L the rear tranny mount is a 2-piece deal, the rubber isolator
and the lower cross member. Well the rubber isolator is shot. Can I use
the isolator off my 4 speed on the 5 speed, with the lower tranny cross
member from the 2L?
Finally can anyone describe in detail what has to be done to prevent the 5th
gear neutral problem? Is the problem gear on the idler shaft or the main
shaft? Weren't there 2 different styles of gear boxes?
Thanks
Ian
