You can use a harmonic balancer puller if you have access to one, or a trick
I have used.

Once you have loosened the main nut, only unthread it until it's flush with
the top thread on the shaft (saves any chance of thread damage.  If the
shaft sticks out a bit further, put on a washer or two on top of the nut
(spacers only)

Take a piece of flat metal bar that will fit across the center hub, and
drill holes matching the threaded holes in the steering wheel.  1/4" steel
should work.  angle iron will work too.

Thread two long bolts with washers through the holes in the steel into the
steering wheel and finger tighten till the steel is snug on the end of the
steering shaft.

give each bolt 1/2 turn at a time to increase tension.  Wheel should pop
off.  in a few turns of each bolt.  If you need a rough diagram of what I
mean, e-mail me off list and I'll do one for you.
