The last 2 U20's I built (one is currently in my '70), I installed Total Seal
gapless rings. 0% leakdown because the top ring has no open gap at all.
http://www.totalseal.com/gaplesss.html
I had to special order them because they are not set up for the R16 or U20. If
anyone wants the # off the box, it might work to order them. Otherwise you'll
have to provide ring groove dimensions and cylinder bore and they tool up to
make them special. Mine are for 0.020 (.5 mm) oversize pistons. I think they
make rings sets now where both the top and 2nd ring are gapless.

important. Cool nights driving local runs to the video store etc. I did one
motor with Sealed power rings. I like these rings the best. You know the rings
are pretty good when you do a leak down test cold and get 6% in each bore. I
have used the same machine shop and same pistons and same break in with
Hastings, Deves and Sealed Power rings as the variables and come up with very
different results. Dean

"run it they way you want it to run". Just
watch the TEMPERATURE. Maybe that is why I didn't have any trouble with using
DEVES rings. I have also heard that if you break an engine in without going
to high RPM the top ring will get damaged when you stretch the rods ;-) oops
