If this connector gets loose it will also cause intermittant firing, too.

A few months back I had an electrical problem, no spark.  It went away but 
then came back and I let the car sit for a while and ignored it (big 
mistake, I know).  Yesterday I took off the spade on the side of the 
distributor that the hot wire and the condenser attaches to (outside) and 
the wire for the points attaches to (inside).  It was icky, corroded, 
covered with gunk.  A simple cleaning of that and the car runs great 
again.  Just goes to show you it's often the simple things and the last 
comment about cleaning connectors sure is true!
