On the overheating;
It is possible that there is obstructive material around number 4
cylinder. That will cause an already poorly designed/manufactured water
passage to overheat locally, sending steam through the system. I had a
similar problem and used a stiff wire and lots of water to flush the
block with the head off. I took the drain petcock clear out so to get
the best water flow and used a peice of heavy stiff wire to knock the
crud from the passages while flushing the system. Got a small amount of
water in the cylinders but dried them and changed oil afterwords. After
that I never had any overheat problem even here in 115 AZ. Another cause
might be a lean run condition caused by a vacuum leak. This can
sometimes be diagnosed with a vacuum meter.
